About The Art
Each piece of art is a visual representation of something beyond ordinary perception. These designs reflect the visions that Shipibo-Conibo women receive during meditation, trance states, dreams, or through the influence of Icaros—sacred healing chants.
An Ikaro is a powerful song sung by local shamans to heal and guide those who seek their help. Some Icaros are highly specific, addressing particular illnesses, while others provide general protection against negative energies. These chants are deeply connected to the patterns the women create, as the designs are believed to embody the vibrational essence of the Icaros themselves
Kené
and
Kébe
Kené and Kébe are the individual patterns. Intentionally and carefully placed together they make the Ikaro a whole.

The Shipibo culture is strongly connected to the consumption of Ayahuasca which is refereed to as The Holy Medicine. It is a cooked mixture of plants found in the Amazon and is used in ceremonial settings to reconnect themselves with nature or to help heal various ailments.
